Your Purpose


The main objective of this role is to provide essential support to Rolling Stock by closely monitoring and analysing business conditions and overall business performance.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Finance, Assets & Projects, the role assumes direct responsibility for one direct report.

The key responsibility is to manage the entire finance process on a monthly basis, ensuring the provision of timely and accurate revenue and cost forecasts, actuals, and detailed variance analysis.


These financial insights play a crucial role in enabling senior management to optimize performance and make informed decisions by identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary corrective actions.

As the primary finance lead for Rolling Stock, the role will be instrumental in consolidating financial data, coordinating financial activities, and facilitating effective financial management for the Rolling Stock division.

Responsibilities will include;

  • Maintain accurate forecast in Adaptive Planning, analysing forecast position and providing timely recommendations to maximise profitability
  • Develop and maintain cross functional relationships with key stakeholders and support functions
  • Meet all reporting deadlines in a timely and reliable manner
  • Supporting and influencing key operational and strategic decisions
  • Improvement strategies developed, presented and implemented with buyin from key stakeholders
  • Rolling Stock successfully managed from a commercial and financial perspective in the context of the Franchise Agreements

About you


Ideally you will be Tertiary qualified in Finance or Accounting and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, CPA Australia or their international equivalents.


Skills and experience will include:

  • Extensive experience in complex multiyear project financial management gained in heavy engineering or maintenance industry
  • Strong understanding of key accounting standards especially IFRS15 and revenue recognition principles
  • Proven ability to build complex financial models that forecast volume, revenue and costs at completion
  • Advanced Excel modelling skills including complex formulae and macros
  • Ability to review and buildup cost estimates for complex tasks involving direct material and labour and subcontractor costs
  • Excellent verbal and written communications including formal and informal presentations, written communications and reports
