The Industrial Relations Officer is responsible for working on negotiation of industrial agreements, preparing pertinent data for management and for employee's guidance and assisting in the settlement of disputes and grievances.

The IR Officer will assure work is performed within the framework of existing labour legislation, public service regulations and managerial policy.

Description


An Industrial Relation Officer will primarily work to provide high quality, professional and timely advice to assist in the achievement of sound industrial outcomes for the organization.


  • Undertake research and analysis, as well as preparation of recommendations, in relation to industrial matters and requests for advice
  • Provide assistance in external disputation matters
  • Establishing and maintaining effective business relationships and professional networks
  • Administers the Corporation's industrial agreements and ensures compliance with the terms and conditions of service
  • Obtains and prepares documentation for negotiating new Industrial Agreements.
  • Prepares counter proposals to assist management in its negotiations relating to industrial agreements and participates in negotiations/discussions with Unions
  • Ensures that Management is kept informed on trends in labour legislation and regulations, the labour market situation and trends in levels of wages and salaries
  • Ensures the collection of relevant data, and the submission of disciplinary and personnel matters to the respective Committee
  • Supports the team leaders to create a harmonious and resilient team environment and strive for continuous improvement.

Profile

To be considered, you will have:

  • 3+ years of prior experience as an Industrial Relations Officer or equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or a related field
  • Sound IR knowledge and skills, as well as an interest in advancing the professional and industrial rights
  • Experience in reviewing enterprise agreements and drafting clauses
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in preparing and advocating less complex industrial cases before Industrial Tribunals
  • Sound level negotiation skills
  • Experience in planning, implementing and reporting of effective industrial campaigns
  • Experience and ability to critically analyse, evaluate, reach sound conclusions and provide viable options
  • Ability to be selfdirected, establish priorities and develop a proactive approach to issues
  • Considerable knowledge of existing industrial legislation, industrial agreements, the Civil Service Act and regulations, the Statutory Authorities Act and other related Acts and Regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of handling trade disputes and grievances.
