As a Security Forces Officer (SECFORO) in the Air Force, you'll lead the Security Forces teams that protect Australia's airbases. You'll deploy rapid security responses, both across Australia and overseas, and provide advice and recommendations to commanders at all levels on security risk management and mitigation strategies.

What you'll do

You will be responsible for commanding and leading up to 40 protective security specialists in a 'Security Flight'. Your responsibilities could include:

Commanding, leading and managing the workforce that provides physical security and security governance for Defence installations and advanced capabilities Advising command on protective security measures and security risk management, including active and passive defences Developing security risk assessments, vulnerability assessments and security risk mitigation strategies Designing and executing airbase protection and security first responses Providing emergency responses for major incidents, such as aircraft crashes Planning the conduct of Base Security Operations and training exercises in conjunction with unit and base executives Delivering ground defence continuation training for Base personnel Delivering nuclear, biological and chemical defence training Controlling the base armoury and small arms range

You may be selected for roles in the Air Force Ground Combat Security Forces Squadron which primarily responds to security threats across the threat spectrum, or in military law enforcement and investigative roles alongside Army and Navy as part of ADF Military Policing in the Joint Military Police Unit (JMPU).

Ground Combat roles include:

Commanding multiple manoeuvre elements of ground combatants within the Ground Combat Squadron, to defeat combat threats within airbases, flight lines, infrastructure, and assets Operating independently or as a joint or combined force Coordinating and integrating with Security Flights, Joint and Coalition partners

Military Police roles include:

2IC Joint Military Police Stations (JMPS) responsible for the planning, leadership and management of Air Force, Army, and Navy Military Police Military Police staff officers responsible for managing projects to deliver policing capability for the Joint Force Military Police investigation and management roles in the JMPU
