We are currently creating a world-leading centre for innovation on-site at Macquarie University that represents a new era for hearing and vision loss.

This nationally significant social infrastructure project will be a place to nurture, trial and share new ideas and form new partnerships that will drive better outcomes for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision.


The Role
NextSense has an exciting opportunity for a School Assistant to join our School at North Rocks.

This is a permanent, part-time role, working 31.25 hours per week and which reports directly to the Head of School.


You'll make a difference in this role by:

  • Supporting the delivery of education/intervention programs in accordance with the vision, mission, values and standards of NextSense.
  • Embracing a culture of quality and innovation that enhances educational opportunities and outcomes for children with sensory disability.
  • Enhancing the profile and reputation of NextSense, generally, and the Department, specifically, in the community.
  • Sharing knowledge and expertise generated within the department with others.

Desired Skills and Experience:

To be successful in this role you'll need to demonstrate you meet the following selection criteria.

  • Excellent communication and an ability to work positively and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and flexibility in the work environment.
  • Experience working with students across a wide range of additional and diverse needs.
  • Ability to develop positive student relationships and manage student behaviour.
  • Willingness to assist students with physical, mobility and personal care challenges and supervise students on the playground.
  • Experience with implementing specific intervention programs.
  • Certificate III/IV in Education Support or currently working towards.
  • Working with children who are blind or have low vision is desirable.
  • A current NSW driver's licence.
  • A first aid certificate.
  • A working with children's check.
  • A criminal record check.
