The Opportunity
We are seeking a person who enjoys working outdoors, is highly motivated, enthusiastic and possesses a 'can do' attitude. The primary responsibility of this role is to apply (or learn) specialised skills and knowledge to support the Principal Surveyor. This includes carrying out basic support administration, operating and maintaining survey instruments and equipment.

Please note this is a casual role (3 days per week on average), however we are open to applicants interested in progressing to part-time permanent work.

To be successful, you will demonstrate personal attributes that are consistent with Councils values of Integrity, People Focused, Excellence and Sustainability and you will possess the following:

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Physically fit with ability to undertake manual tasks and field work (including digging holes, installing field pegs, working outdoors and walking/standing for long periods)
  • Ability to learn quickly, follow instruction and work without close direction or supervision
  • Knowledge of survey equipment highly desirable
  • Previous experience in the use of manual and powered tools and equipment
  • Sound computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn survey related software
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

The following other special conditions/mandatory requirements are applicable to this role:

  • Construction industry White Card (Mandatory);
  • Possess and maintain a C class driver's license (Mandatory);
  • Chainsaw Ticket (Desirable);
  • Telstra Plant Locator Accreditation (Desirable);
  • Marine Driver's License (Desirable); and
  • The incumbent may be required to travel on official business.

General Salary Information
Wages $37.44 per hour

Pre-employment Screening
Pre-employment screening includes Medicals, Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Criminal History Checks to ensure capability to perform the inherent requirements of the role.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities. The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
