MonashHeart is the largest cardiology service provider in Victoria with 270 staff across our three sites, providing over 65,000 episodes of cardiological care to the community annually. We provide cardiology healthcare services to patients of all ages, from in-utero and newborns right through to our senior citizens. About the Role
Fellows will be exposed to the full range of diagnostic echocardiographic modalities including transthoracic echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, and stress echocardiography utilising both exercise and pharmacological stress. We are a large tertiary referral centre with the 4 echo laboratories (based at VHH, Clayton, Dandenong and Casey) currently performing more than 18,000 studies per year, including approximately 700 transoesophageal and 1500 stress studies.
The echo training program is well established, with dedicated adult echo cardiologists who are actively involved in teaching fellows. We have particular expertise in 3-D transoesophageal echo, quantitation of myocardial function 2 with tissue Doppler techniques, contrast echocardiography, and congenital heart disease imaging. Fellows will also undertake procedural echo in the cardiac cath lab, using TOE guidance to support ASD and PFO closures, alcohol septal ablation for HOCM, percutaneous aortic valve implantation and mitral valve repair (MitraClip), as well as novel procedures.
In the context of Monash Medical Centre being a tertiary referral centre for obstetric services, the echo lab also offers paediatric echo (including prenatal and neonatal diagnosis) and has a significant population of paediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease.
The echo lab offers a strong teaching program. There are dedicated echo teaching sessions including a weekly formal case review session, consultant and fellow presentations, supervised performance of all TOE studies, coreporting of stress studies, and multiple opportunities for one-on-one reporting of transthoracic studies with consultants.
The VHH houses two 320-slice Canon CT machines and MonashHeart is performing over 3,500 cardiac CT's each year across four sites. Fellows will work closely with cardiologists experienced in the reporting of cardiac CT.
The fellowship positions are tailored for trainees who have finished their core cardiology training and wish to subspecialise in advanced echo and cardiac CT. These fellowships provide excellent training in echocardiography and cardiac CT. Fellows will be encouraged to be involved in imaging-based research projects, and will have the opportunity to undertake a higher degree.

The successful candidate will have a passion for interventional cardiology with a keen interest in exploring research projects in the field of Structural Heart Disease.
