  • Full time or 4 day a week role | Hybrid work | Offices based at UTS, Sydney CBD
  • A leadership opportunity to lead the fundraising and philanthropy portfolio supporting an inspiration cause.
  • Access to salary packaging, wellbeing packages and a Friday early finish

About the Organisation:

The National Justice Project (NJP) is a not-for-profit legal service & civil rights organisation committed to tackling systemic injustice, discrimination, and racism.

Established in 2015, their vision is to foster a fairer society where individuals are treated equally and live safely without discrimination. They employ a multifaceted approach using law, education, technology, and advocacy to effect systemic change. Their strategic cases, inquests advocacy, and legal tech solutions have set crucial legal precedents, impacting the lives of our clients and the broader community.

About the Role:

As the Head of Fundraising and Philanthropy, you will be at the forefront of their mission to create a fairer society where everyone is treated equally.
This role will be a key member of our Executive Team, collaborating closely with the CEO, Board and Advisory Committee, working together with the Communication team, and leading a small, dedicated group of professionals to achieve ambitious fundraising goals.

As the fundraising lead you will design, develop, and deliver the fundraising strategy, to exceed the annual target. With over half already pledged for FY24-25, you will focus on expanding their network of major donors, trusts, and foundations, while also nurturing relationships with corporate sponsors and grassroots supporters.

You will also be instrumental in driving acquisition, conversion, stewardship, and growth to achieve sustainable revenue growth across annual giving and community fundraising and building diversified streams of income for the organisation.

This role is a perfect fit for a dynamic, results-driven fundraiser with a passion for social justice. You will be a fearless initiator; able to find new opportunities, outreach to new potential leads and cultivate relationships from the start. You will enjoy working in a small, enthusiastic team and thrive on being able to operate at a strategic level whilst still being hands on with the day-to-day fundraising. It is important that you are a continuous leaner, willing to innovate and to drive results with a commitment to efficiency and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be a proactive and inspiring leader, setting a positive example, and working productively with a small management and fundraising team.
  • Develop, budget, and implement a strategy and engagement plan for existing and prospective major donors, trusts and foundations, corporate donors, and bequests.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors strategically working on high value opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for new grant income to support both core and key project and program development.
  • Develop, budget, and implement a strategy and engagement plan for existing, lapsed, and new grassroots, regular, workplace and peer-to-peer donors, including working with the Communications Manager to deliver campaigns.
  • Work in collaboration with the executive team; wider legal, projects and administration teams; Statutory and Advisory Board including the fundraising and communication Board committee.
  • Research, maintain and grow an active pipeline of prospects for major donors and trust and foundations opportunities for organisational sustainability.
  • Develop and maintain a strong and efficient acquittal and impact report process for all existing grant funders.
  • Oversee and further develop the capabilities of the Salesforce donor database, including updating the CRM system and managing the day to day.
  • Prepare dynamic and inspiring presentations and proposals to communicate convincingly with diverse potential donors.
  • Plan, and execute, an active regular calendar of events with the CEO and Executive Team to attract and retain major donors and partners.

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience working in fundraising specialising in philanthropy, with a track record of success in increasing revenue in those portfolios.
  • Donor acquisition experience, successfully converting leads into major gifts, donor stewardship and management.
  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills, including communicating with influence, confidence, and cultural respect.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing fundraising strategies.
  • Excellent planning, prioritising, and time management skills
  • Proactive and resourceful approach with 'can do' attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in grant writing and reporting.
  • Experience using Salesforce CRM or similar.
