About the opportunity

We have an exciting permanent, full-time opportunity for a dynamic and innovative Town Planner in our Strategic Planning team. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated professional to contribute to the future of Blacktown City.

An ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in creating and enacting strategic plans, developing policies, and review of environmental planning instruments and development control plans to guide and control future development. You will be required to project manage various tasks as a team member or as an individual.

You will have a tertiary qualifications recognised in Town Panning or equivalent qualifications recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia. Your experience in the preparation of submissions in response to policy changes, management of planning proposals and development control plans, the briefing and coordination of consultants, and the development and preparation of internal strategies and policies are essential attributes.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning or equivalent that are recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA)
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning industry
  • Well-developed written, oral, and presentation communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiation, problem-solving, and conflict resolution to enable effective liaison with people at all levels
  • Project management skills in order to deliver projects on time and to a high standard
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to a customer service culture and delivery of quality service
  • Conduct that demonstrates to others Council's commitment to teamwork, customer focus, innovation, and commitment to safety
  • Current Class "C" driver's licence.

Desirable:

  • Strategic planning experience
  • Urban design experience
  • Master planning experience.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council's Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,796.10 per week
  • 35-hour working week
  • Car allowance
  • Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 11% employer superannuation contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport and gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
