Coronial Information and Support Officer - Coronial Information and Support Program

Temporary part-time opportunity (14-hours per week) 12-month contract

Salary range from $95,136-
$104,994
(pro-rata) plus employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

Remote working arrangements are not possible for this role. Staff have access to free on-site parking.**
Your role


The Coronial Information and Support Program (CISP) is located within the NSW State Coroner's Office and provides services to the whole state.

CISP's function is to provide information and support to families where a death has been reported to the Coroner and to facilitate communication between the Coroner and families who have contact with the coronial jurisdiction.

In NSW, coroners are responsible for investigating all sudden, unexpected or suspicious deaths, including missing persons.

CISP officers are experienced social workers who use trauma-informed clinical skills and expertise to inform and support families navigating the coronial pathway.


What you'll do


The CISP Officer works in partnership with the CISP Coordinator and other CISP officers to provide accurate and timely information, support and guidance for persons and families affected by deaths reported to the Coroner in NSW.


You will assist next of kin and those who come into contact with the coronial jurisdiction to understand the role and legal powers of the Coroner, including how information is gathered for investigations and how decisions are made regarding the holding or dispensing of inquests.

You will support the Coroner by providing information to next of kin about directions that are made throughout the coronial process and will provide information and guidance if objections are raised.

You will also assist families over the course of coronial inquests and in the viewing of sensitive information that is approved for release by the Coroner.


You will work in a multi-agency unit with key stakeholders, including the Coroners, Court Registry, NSW Health Pathology (Forensic Medicine) and NSW Police, and will use trauma-informed clinical skills and expertise to support and advocate for next of kin, family and friends engaged in coronial matters.


What we're looking for


Tertiary qualifications in social work and/or psychology and post-admission professional experience in working with and providing support to bereaved families.


  • National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 201
  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
