About the Role:

As the Head of Department (Curriculum) - Watchhouse Education, you will:

  • develop educational resources that can be delivered by youth justice workers to young people held in watchhouse facilities across the state
- ensure the development and use of resources are culturally appropriate and tailored to meet the needs of leaners from diverse and complex backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons, children and young persons with a disability and children and young persons in out-of-home care
- liaise with stakeholders from within the Department of Education, other Queensland Government agencies (including the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs and Queensland Police Service) and the broader Queensland community
- provide related training and professional development on the use of these resources to Youth Justice officers.

The ideal applicant will demonstrate:

- strong written and interpersonal communication, with experience in development and implementation of curriculum resources that support quality outcomes for all learners
- ability to meet the needs of children and young persons with diverse backgrounds and learning needs, such as First Nations children and young persons, children and young persons with a disability and children and young persons in out-of-home care
- flexibility to work both autonomously and with a number of internal and external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, relevant legislative requirements, policies and procedures.
