About the role:

You will lead EPA's work with Earth Resources Regulation (ERR) across a broad range of matters relating to EPA's role in the regulation of earth resources industries under the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990 and Petroleum Act 1998. This includes provision of expert advice in EPA's role as a referral authority under the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990

In this role you will:

  • Provide authoritative and timely advice on EPA's role in the regulation of earth resources industries under the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990 and Petroleum Act 1998
  • Lead the provision of authoritative and timely referral advice to ERR under the MRSD Act and the ERR/EPA Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
  • Provide authoritative advice on EPA's role and regulatory requirements in the rehabilitation of sites that were formally used for earth resources industries.
  • Lead ongoing implementation and review of the EPA and ERR Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), including the joint procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Major Projects Advisory Team in the provision of authoritative advice on earth resources industries proposals.

Skills and experience:

  • Senior level experience in earth resources industry regulation.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Environment Protection Act 2017, Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990 and Petroleum Act 1998.
  • Proven ability to apply relevant government legislation, regulations, reporting directives and procedures, to achieve optimal organisational outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects within a complex regulatory and public policy context.
  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications is desirable.
