The role
You will be joining the Corporate Affairs and Sustainability team.

Our job is to tell Great Southern Bank's story, protect our brand and reputation and lead the Bank's sustainability and community programs.

We collaborate with teams across the Bank to clearly communicate our purpose, support and success in helping Australians achieve home ownership.

There is an exciting opportunity for a Stakeholder Engagement Specialist to join the team.
This is a fulltime position based in our Brisbane head office, located in the CBD.


As the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist at Great Southern Bank, you will build and help manage relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.

You will monitor legislative and regulatory developments, assess their potential impacts on the Bank, and help develop strategic responses.

You will engage and advocate with government entities, policymakers, industry groups, community organisations, and other stakeholders to ensure our voice is influential in policy discussions.

Additionally, you will collaborate with the Corporate Affairs team to create clear, persuasive messaging and materials that clearly convey our positions on key issues and aligns with our overall corporate narrative.

This role requires a collaborative approach and strategic thinking, positioning you at the forefront of integrating our communications and advocacy efforts to effectively promote Great Southern Bank's objectives.


Your responsibilities

  • You will assist the Senior Manager of Strategic Communications and other leaders in the Corporate Affairs and Sustainability team to execute major advocacy, engagement and communications programs and events that align with our organisational goals.
  • You will build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including political figures and industry associations, to support our advocacy efforts.
  • You will prepare briefing materials for Board members, the CEO, and Executives to support their meetings with government, industry and other key stakeholders.
  • You will develop communication materials to support our advocacy agenda.
  • You will create and distribute content across various channels to enhance engagement, awareness, and promotion of our initiatives. This includes producing media releases, social media posts, web copy, and internal communications such as Workplace posts and FAQs.
  • You may also be called upon to collaborate with inhouse designers or external suppliers to create accompanying creative assets like photography, video, audio, and graphics.

Your experience

  • 2+ years' experience in public affairs, stakeholder engagement, government relations, or a related field.
  • Direct experience in engaging and managing relationships with different stakeholders to advance organisational interests and ensure our voice is influential in relevant policy discussions.
  • Understanding of the external stakeholder environment in which Great Southern Bank operates.
  • Understanding of policy development, legislative processes, and advocacy work, particularly in sectors influenced by regulatory or government interactions.
  • Desirable: Knowledge and experience of the workings of government particularly federal and state level.
  • Desirable: Experience of working within the financial services industry.

Your qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Policy, Politics, Communications, Law, Business or Finance.
