About Metro South Health

Metro South Health is the major provider of public healthcare services, and health education and research, in the Brisbane south side, Logan, Redlands and Scenic Rim regions.

We serve an estimated population of 1.2 million people, 23 per cent of Queensland's population. We employ more than 14,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff and a budget of $3.1 billion.

Our catchment spans 3,616 square kilometres and covers the area from the Brisbane River in the north to Redland City in the east, south to Logan and the eastern portion of the Scenic Rim to the border of New South Wales.

We have five major hospitals in addition to health centres throughout the region.
About the role

The Health Service Chief Executive (HSCE) is appointed by, and reports to, the Metro South Hospital and Health Board, and is the single point of accountability for ensuring safe, high quality clinical service delivery through effective executive leadership and management of all hospitals and services, including associated support functions.

Metro South Hospital and Health Service is an independent statutory body.

The position is accountable to the Hospital and Health Board for ensuring that the HHS achieves a balance between efficient service delivery and high-quality health outcomes.


Key Challenges include:

  • The HSCE will face significant challenges in negotiating and agreeing the Hospital and Health Service's Service Level Agreement; taking accountability for Metro South Hospital and Health Service's corporate and clinical governance; driving cultural change to achieve performance; and engaging with the community to ensure alignment of service delivery to community needs.
  • Metro South Hospital and Health Service's most significant challenges are associated with the size of its operations, rapidly increasing demand and the diverse range and complexity of health care services provided. Given its large and diverse population, Metro South Hospital and Health Service is expected to lead in many areas.
  • Metro South Hospital and Health Service has a major role to play in education and training, research, and translating medical research breakthroughs into better patient care and supporting Australia's role in global efforts to address major health issues and will therefore need to continue to enhance the significant links to major University partners.
  • The HSCE will meet these challenges to deliver costeffective, highquality services across the HHS in a timely manner within the context of the guidelines set out in the Hospital and Health Service's Service Agreement.
