College Objective At Geelong Lutheran College it is expected that each staff member will support the
Christian ethos of the schools. A good example for Christian living is to be given to
children and parents by words and actions.

The Christian Education environment we offer depends largely on the maturity and
professionalism of all staff. Therefore, it is expected that all staff members co-operate
fully with the Principal, Head of School, other staff and the School Council in adhering
to the policies, teachings and fostering the ethos, culture and traditions of Geelong
Lutheran College.

Staff are expected to support the Christian ethos of Geelong Lutheran College and to
demonstrate courtesy, co-operation and teamwork with fellow members of staff.

Position Overview Year Level Coordinators are a pivotal role (i) contributing to the development of the
College as a faith community, (ii) collaborating in the promotion of Geelong Lutheran
College as a centre of quality learning and teaching, and (iii) contributing to the
effective leadership and administration of the College. The main focus of this role is to
assist the year level Mentor Group teachers to support Student Wellbeing and the
behavior management process, including escalation of matters when needed as well
as organizing and coordinating year level event.

Year Level Coordinators are appointed by the Principal and report to the Head of
Secondary. These leadership positions have been constructed on a one-year cycle.
Remuneration is specified in the Enterprise Agreement (EA).

Duties and 1.

Faith Leadership:

Responsibilities - Supporting and upholding the Christian ethos of Geelong Lutheran
College;

  • Modelling best practice in Christian education;
  • Promoting the values of Geelong Lutheran College (wisdom, honour and
purpose)

  • Carry out all duties in a spirit of Christian compassion

Leadership:

  • Focuses and encourages Homegroup Teachers to work toward the
Strategic Vision of the College
o Leads staff in achieving this task

  • Accepts responsibility for the work done
  • Solves problems that need to be addressed
  • Is achievement oriented
  • Focuses on the quality of relationships with those with whom they
work
o Communicates clearly with others and provides feedback

  • Builds a sense of team and develops the talents and potential
of members

  • Works closely with the Head of Secondary and Dean of
Students

  • Ensures that Homegroup Teachers carry out the
administrative duties assigned to them

Administration and management:

  • Meets regularly with the Dean of Students and fellow Year Level
Coordinators

  • Meets with the Head of Secondary as needed
  • Chairs regular Wellbeing Mentor meetings
  • Plans and leads weekly Year Level meetings
  • Undertakes a key organisational role for year level activities. This will
vary for each year level, including activities such as:
o Organising Camps and year level events

  • Developing and overseeing Signature programs
  • Organising guest speakers for the cohort
timetabling, notifying staff of year level events as needed.

  • Develops additional year level programs in consultation with staff and
the Head of Secondary or Dean of Students in response to student
needs

  • Assisting with the transition of new students into the College together
with the transition of students in new year levels

  • Ensures College structures are effective in operation
  • Mentoring and supporting teachers who are experiencing difficulties
with behavior management in their classes;

  • Maintains a focus on the holistic development of the College and its
community

  • Monitors and ensures the proper use and care for facilities assigned
to the year level

  • Works closely with the Student Leaders
  • Communicates and liaises with parents on an individual and large
group basis to articulate College policies and programs which serve
the pastoral needs of student

  • Liaises with Student Wellbeing, as appropriate, in relation to the
Pastoral Care program

  • Liaises with the Faculty Leaders regarding year level activities
  • Liaises with Adaptive Education Coordinator as required
  • Uses data and student reports to monitors student progress and
initiate interventions as needed

Pastoral Care and Child Safety:

  • Actively supports specialised year level programs
  • Provide students with a childsafe environment in which the inherent
dignity of children and young people is respected and nurtured

  • Be familiar and comply with the College's Commitment to Child
Safety, Child Safe Policy and any other policies or procedures relating
to child safety

  • Proactively monitor and support student wellbeing
  • Implement strategies which promote a healthy and positive learning
environment

  • Liaises with parents regarding student progress and other matters as
appropriate in conjunction with the Homegroup teachers
