In your new role as a Principal Technical Officer - Regulatory Compliance, you will be responsible for managing compliance critical activities associated with the initial and ongoing evaluation of Flight Simulator Training Devices (FSTDs) in accordance with CASA Part 60, ensuring Qantas Group Flight Training meets its obligations as the 'operator' of such devices.


The role manages the resources for compliance activities including training of certified CASA approved 'Team Leaders', and other team members required to comply with CASR 60 for FSTD acceptance testing.

The role undertakes auditing mechanisms and processes to ensure policies and procedures meet regulatory requirements.

This position holds the CASA 'Team Leader' delegation/authorisation for the evaluation of FSTDs. As such this role has a close alignment with internal and external stakeholders such as CASA.


The role also provides critical project support and is responsible for the ongoing development, review and delivery of the CASA approved 'Simulator Evaluation' training course to internal and external customers.

To be considered for this role;

You'll have

  • The ability to communicate effectively in a complex technical environment.
  • A high degree of interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to liaise at a senior management level both internally and externally with manufacturers, operators, suppliers and regulatory authorities.
  • The ability to analyse and interpret technical data and provide management reporting.
  • Audit and Quality Management Systems knowledge and experience.
  • Computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office suite of products used for the tracking, auditing, scheduling, reporting of records and resources required for compliance and project management
  • The ability to deliver training of a technical nature.

Whilst not essential, the following are highly desirable:

  • Experience in the acceptance and evaluation of FSTDs.
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems as an engineer, pilot, simulator technician or other suitable qualification.
  • Knowledge of Flight Simulation Systems
  • Internal Auditor Qualification
  • Completion of CASA approved flight simulator evaluation course.
  • Hold or have held a CASA simulator evaluation team leader instrument.
  • Knowledge and understanding of national and international FSTD regulatory standards including but not limited to CASA, FAA, EASA, ICAO.
