Your Purpose


The tax team provides tax advisory and compliance services to ensure strong taxation policy and governance across the Suncorp Group.

As the Tax Advisor you will assist in the delivery of high quality technical advice and support the Australian reporting obligations for GST and Insurance Duty of the Suncorp Group.

What you'll do

  • Assist in enabling the GST function to embed best practices.
  • Establish tax compliant systems and procedures, and a climate of timely issue identification and resolution,
  • Provide GST technical analysis and assistance in implementing all measures required for GST compliance.
  • Prepare the consolidated monthly Business Activity Statement for the Suncorp GST Group to a high standard.
  • Develop internal team and partner resources to enhance the delivery to our internal customers and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance in matters relating to GST, insurance duty and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT).
  • Provide valueadded, commercially focused advice to internal customers across a diverse range of GST and insurance duty issues arising across the Suncorp Group.
  • Research GST legislation to determine the correct GST position to be taken, and/or to recommend a preferred course of action regarding various transactions and events (basic to complex).
  • Enable the business to deliver on their strategies through the timely provision of commercially focused tax advisory support.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to understanding internal customer needs and strengthening stakeholder relationships.
  • Prepare Objections and Rulings and liaise with external consultants and statutory authorities.
  • Liaise with external and internal audit, consultants, regulators, and accounting personnel.
  • Assist in the preparation of Fringe Benefits Tax advice as required

What you'll need to bring

  • Undergraduate degree in Law, Finance, Accounting (or similar)
  • Mandatory
  • Professional qualifications from the Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA ANZ), Certified Practising Accountants Australia (CPA)
  • Desired
  • Three to five years relevant taxation experience in either the accounting or legal profession and/or in the finance industry
  • Good analytical and reasoning skills and the ability to deal with the complexities of tax as well as overlapping industry, regulatory, and organisational issues
  • Experience in the use of tax technologies
  • Good written and oral communication skills and ability to deal assuredly with members of the Finance team, particularly the Financial Accounting team, external accountants, and statutory authorities.
