Let's talk about the role: Deputy Social & Digital Media Editor

The Deputy Social & Digital Media Editor plays a vital role in driving the news strategy across our online platforms. It involves understanding the news cycle, digital and social media, creating stories, pitching ideas, sub-editing, and coordinating a team of online news producers.

What will you do?

  • Manage and expand 10 News First's digital presence across all platforms
  • Support editorial operations, curate news, and lead sub-editing for the social & digital team
  • Participate in live events or breaking news, potentially working unconventional hours
  • Collaborate with the editor to enhance audience engagement, monetization, and brand visibility
  • Build strong relationships with the 10 News First broadcast team
  • Utilize social channels to gather content
  • Provide regular reports and assist in team KPI management

What are we seeking? Essential requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in a news organization or newsroom
  • Proficient in real-time analytics, social management, and share tools
  • Solid understanding of social and digital platforms with a focus on YouTube
  • Keen attention to detail and strong sub-editing skills
  • Proficiency in video and image editing tools like Canva, Adobe Premiere, and Photoshop
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to thrive under pressure
  • Deep knowledge of the news cycle and reporting
  • Passion for news with an innovative content creation approach
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced news team
  • Foster and manage relationships within local and national teams
  • Work on-site
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to fact-checking
  • Knowledge of media regulations
  • Willingness to work non-standard office hours, including evenings and weekends
