The Legal Services Department is enhancing its advocacy response to meet the expansion of specialist practice areas and court networks across Victoria.

Victoria Police is seeking to meet this demand with an enthusiastic, diligent and skilled team of Legal Support Officers to undertake a range of administrative duties and provide assistance to a dedicated team of prosecutorial staff working in the youth justice space.

As the successful applicant, you will have excellent organisational and time management skills, the ability to work effectively under pressure and proficient stakeholder engagement.

The primary function of the role is to undertake office administrative duties and provide assistance that ensures the effective delivery of a prosecution service to the Children's Court of Victoria.

The successful incumbent will work within the Specialist Children's Court Prosecution Group (SCCPG) of the Prosecutions Court Branch. Legal Support Officers provide a vital function to the overall function of the SCCPG. The role promotes the opportunity to develop and maintain collaborative relationships within the expansive Victoria Police workforce.

You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders using your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships and uphold the strong reputation of the SCCPG.

Your duties will include:

  • The provision of general support to ensure effective service delivery
  • Appropriately managing and directing enquiries
  • Managing and coordinating calendar bookings
  • Sorting incoming and outgoing mail
  • Data entry into the Brief Management System (BMS)
  • The location and ordering of briefs in readiness for court
  • Filing, ordering and general office administrative tasks
  • Undertaking other duties as required by line managers

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) fulltime, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at the Melbourne Children's Court Prosecution Unit, at 456 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • As a member of the Legal Services Department you will be located, on selection, at a specific office within a Division for a particular advertised opportunity. However, given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department. This supports the Departments commitment to a flexible and deployable legal workforce and professional development opportunities in a range of legal domains.
