CO2 Australia is a wholly Australian-owned environmental consultancy offering a range of environmental services, including carbon emissions reduction projects, carbon and biodiversity offsets, ecological assessments, monitoring and rehabilitation, environmental approvals, and integrated land management.
While delivering on consulting services focusing on biodiversity and carbon offsets, CO2 Australia isn't your typical corporate, multinational environmental consultancy.
The Role
The primary role of the Ecologist is to assist with the delivery of consulting services focusing on biodiversity offsets, but also contributing to carbon offsets and other natural capital projects throughout Queensland and elsewhere in Australia.
This role incorporates the delivery of fieldwork required to meet contractual arrangements, data collation and analysis, as well as compilation of reporting necessary to meet the deliverables associated with those contracts.
About you
CO2 Australia is looking for an energetic, diligent and passionate Ecologist to help them deliver a strong pipeline of exciting projects.
You will enjoy working in a smaller organisation and rolling up your sleeves to contribute to the team and broader organisation as required.
As most projects are currently based in Queensland, an Ecologist with experience in Queensland flora and fauna species, ecosystems, guidelines and legislation is essential.
Additional knowledge of and/or experience with similar work in New South Wales (including implementation of the Biodiversity Assessment Method [BAM] and BAM accreditation) would also be highly regarded.
Required Skills and Proficiencies include:
- Bachelor's degree in an environmental sciences discipline (e.g., Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Management, Environmental Science or similar).
- A postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters or PhD) in these disciplines will be highly regarded.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in ecological survey and assessment, including Regional Ecosystem verification and assessment, full floristic survey, vegetation community mapping, plant identification and BioCondition assessments.
- Experience working across Queensland in varying landscapes, including the Brigalow Belt.
- Ability to contribute to and coordinate ecological surveys and teams.
- Experience in environmental impact assessment.
- Experience and skills in fauna identification and ecology.
- Ability to develop and implement environmental management and monitoring programs.
- Willingness to travel to carry out field assessments in remote areas and rugged environments as required.
- Experience in preparing high quality reports, including ecological, management and environmental assessment reports.
- Excellent problem solving, analytical and conceptual skills.
- Strong knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation and policy, including biodiversity offsets policies (Commonwealth and State) and referrals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 199
- Willingness to help with business development to generate new business opportunities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team of professionals.
- Advanced technical skills in MS Office.
