About the role:

The Therapeutic Specialist - Home Based Care role sits within the MacKillop Clinical Services team and reports to the Northern Metropolitan region Principal Practitioner. The position works closely with the Managers and Coordinators of the local region to deliver clinical and therapeutic services for children, young people, families and carers who are clients of the programs.

The Therapeutic Specialist – Home Based Care is responsible for guiding and supporting the development of secure attachment between carers and children and young people, conducting assessments, developing therapeutic treatment plans and leading reflective practice to support carers and staff to develop their therapeutic skills. In addition, the Therapeutic Specialist will, as required, champion the further implementation of All About Me books and This Is Us books, Power To Kids, and Trauma-Informed Care within the Home-Based Care Program

The Therapeutic Specialist, as part of the Clinical Services team and as directed by the Principal Practitioner, will work closely with the Manager, program staff and other service partners in the management of complex cases and practice quality issues. This includes the provision of specialist expertise and assistance, case consultancy and review and the promotion of reflective and evidence-based practice.

This is a Fixed Term Part-Time 30.4 hours per week until 15/04/2025 opportunity based in Preston, VIC within our Clinical Services - Northern Metropolitain Region. The position reports to the Principal Practitioner, Northern Metropolitan and Loddon Regions.

Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology or Social Work
  • Eligibility for membership with Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direct service in the clinical assessment and treatment of children, young people, families, and carers.
  • Experience working in Out-of-Home Care, ideally working with young people in foster care.
  • Evidence of a sophisticated understanding of the complexity of the Child Protection and the Out-of-Home Care service system and the issues involved in providing services to statutory clients.
  • Experience working with carers and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated practice knowledge relevant to working with traumatised and vulnerable children, young people and families, which may include child development and the impact of trauma, clinical work with children, young people and families, mental health, drug and alcohol, disability, or other trauma related behaviours.
