The Opportunity

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering has an opportunity for an Associate Lecturer. In this role you will develop your own research in the area of geophysics and stratigraphy as well as teach undergraduate/postgraduate classes. You will be given the opportunity to conduct classes, design and develop learning activities, as well as conduct and publish high-quality research as part of a team and/or independently.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career academic looking to lay the foundations for their career in academia. The role of Associate Lecturer reports to Associate Professor Stuart Clark and has no direct reports

Salary, Level A, AUD $106,337 to $113,737 per annum + 17% superannuation Full time Fixed term – 22 months Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is in the Faculty of Engineering and has over 3,300 students and an operating budget of over $22 million. The School has 55 full time academic staff, 35 professional and technical staff and 80 research only appointments. The School's mission is to develop well-educated graduates with the essential skills, attributes and knowledge that will enable them to practice as professional civil or environmental engineers; and to conduct research and development of international distinction to meet the needs of the discipline, industry and society. Skills & Experience:

A PhD in Geophysics and/or Stratigraphy or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience. Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Demonstrated experience in and passion for teaching and learning design, development and/or delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. Knowledge of educational technologies and online delivery methods. Experience engaging students and fostering independent learning through meaningful assessment and helpful feedback. Evidence of and/or preparedness to undertake professional development of teaching practice. Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives. Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision. Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity. Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills. An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines. Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
