About the role

We're seeking a Communications and Engagement Manage r, responsible for developing and implementing engagement and communications plans and activities associated with Transurban's major projects in Victoria .

Join us as our Communications and Engagement Manage r, and contribute to meaningful and positive changes, shaping the future of our cities and leaving a positive placemaking legacy behind for local communities.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Develop and deliver integrated communications and stakeholder engagement strategies to support Transurban's role during construction and for operations as required
  • Identify and foster relationships with key stakeholders, community partners, and government entities – including through working from a variety of locations and participating in a range of in-person meetings and events
  • Oversee the delivery of community engagement activities for the project, including supporting construction contractors in strategy development and execution
  • Lead event-based engagement, including community outreach activities and public events
  • Proactively address community impacts and project-related issues, collaborating with internal stakeholders to mitigate risk and reduce impacts on stakeholders
  • Oversee communication activities for construction, road works and closures, including marketing and advertising campaigns, community and motorist notifications, advertising, and social media/web materials
  • Identify opportunities for positive media coverage and address potential media issues and risks
  • Lead, mentor and coach a small team

This role will suit someone with a curious mind, caring approach, and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • Strong stakeholder and community engagement skills
  • Ability to identify opportunities and mitigate reputational risks
  • Leadership skills to manage high-performing teams
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives
  • Strategic thinking with excellent planning and organisational abilities
  • Exceptional verbal, written communication, public presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Negotiating and influencing skills to gain trust and motivate others
  • Understanding of state and local politics
  • Team-oriented, enthusiastic, self-starter
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in high-pressure environments

Desirable:

  • Experience with large infrastructure projects in a regulated industry
  • Experience developing and implementing partnerships with not-for-profits, academic institutions, and charitable organisations
  • Knowledge of marketing aspects of communications delivery, such as advertising, media buying and scheduling
  • Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Community Development, Commerce, or Business

If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.

With a career at Transurban, you'll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • A range of flexible working and leave options, including the option to purchase an additional six weeks of leave each year
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well
  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests
  • Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more
  • Share offers and insurance benefits
  • Social activities, community give-back programs and paid volunteer days

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.

We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.
