CommBank's Sanctions Operations team is looking for a Quality Control Analyst to join our Regulatory and Control Operations (RACO) division, which sits within our Chief Operations Office (COO) which is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing leadership of the Groups financial crime shared services.

RACO leads the Groups approach to managing AML/CTF, and Sanctions risks and obligations.

Sanctions Operations is a group within RACO and comprises of two functions, Customer Screening and Payments Screening.

These teams are responsible for actioning alerts created by algorithms and analytics which compare the customer and payment records against relevant lists e.g.

Sanctions, PEP, Terrorism Financing, and other lists.

The Role.


As a Quality control Analyst you will help mitigate risk(s) for Sanctions Operations via prompt identification, logging and assistance in remediating various risk items.

You will set set and maintain the standard to which Sanctions Operations operates in its decision making and regulatory submissions, ensuring correct process is followed.

You will work in-line with the Business and Governance Manager in identifying and improving operational, compliance and financial risk across the Sanctions Operations Portfolio and additionally collaborate with Line 1 risk counterparts to identify and implement improvements to the control environment

On any given day you will:

  • Perform controls on behalf of Sanctions Operations
  • Conduct holistic thematic reviews to identify areas of opportunity in respect to quality outcomes
  • Create and implement a readacross approach to better understand trends
  • Ensure SLA's and team targets are met or exceeded
  • Raise any risks or issues identified through the appropriate channels and contribute to remediation activity to mitigate any risk
  • Undertake any other tasks assigned by your Manager that you have the capability to perform safely and in line with relevant internal Group policies and external regulatory requirements

We're interested in hearing from people who have:

You will have existing Sanctions Operations or Compliance experience with demonstrated experience working in a financial crime and/or financial services industry environment.

You will have well-developed stakeholder management experience and will be able to communicate complex situations clearly.

You will also have:

  • An understanding of the financial crime regulatory framework with knowledge of the AML/CTF, Sanctions and ABC risk environment
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate trends and insights to a large range of stakeholders
  • Continuous improvement (CI) mindset and the ability to utilise CI tools
  • Excellent time management skills
