About the Role
Registrars will report to their respective supervisor and the Unit Head of Diagnostic Genomics.
The successful applicant will be trained in Practical aspects of cytogenetics and molecular genetic testing; Result interpretation and reporting; Clinical Liaison; Presentation at Multidisciplinary meetings; Quality Assurance program modules; Undergraduate teaching and Laboratory Management;
About Diagnostic Genomics Laboratory
The Diagnostic Genomics Laboratory at Monash Health is a busy unit providing a range of genetic tests including karyotyping, microarray and FISH testing, as well as molecular testing for paediatric and adult cancers, haematological disorders, cancer predisposition and paediatric disorders of growth. The unit performs more than 3,000 cytogenetic tests (G-banded karyotyping and microarray tests) and more than 8,000 molecular tests per year. The department is staffed by 0.3 EFT of a EFT Genetic Pathologist, 0.8 EFT of molecular pathologists, 0.2 EFT of a molecular haematologist, 1 EFT registrar and more than 30 EFT scientific staff.
About You
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:
- We are looking for candidates who is meticulous with attention to details, one who can multi task and be a team player and work in a complex environment
- Ideally you will possess well-developed communication and time management skills and demonstrate an interest in genetics through the pursuit of education, employment or research opportunities in a related field
- Positions are appointed through the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) and applicants will need to apply to both the RCPA and Monash Pathology
- A medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) with current registration the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APRHA)
- A current Victorian Working with Children Check Employee (WWCC)
- Previous experience in Genetic and Molecular Pathology is desirable
