The Team


The Property Planning and Capital Works section is responsible for providing strategic property services including sustainability, and delivery of a national capital works program.


The AEC's Property portfolio contains a large and diverse footprint to support a nationally dispersed network and agile workforce, and where the portfolio expands and contracts to meet our operational needs on for both long and short-term basis.


The Opportunity


This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced property services leader who will support the Director Property Planning and Capital Works in the day-to-day management and overall delivery of strategies, policies, transition to business as usual plans, governance, financial management, and reporting related to the Property function.


This role involves leading the AEC's Property strategy and governance, including providing specialist advice, defining and analysing business needs for the future, implementing change and communications processes; and overseeing the management, monitoring and reporting of key property planning and budgeting activities for the section.


The occupant works directly to the Director Property Planning and Capital Works, and has supervisory responsibility for one APS 6 team member; and also working closely with the Property Management and Facilities section and across the organisation more broadly.


To excel you'll have:

  • Proven ability and experience managing or overseeing Property related functions.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies, policies and budgets.
  • Experience in consulting, providing specialist advice and recommendations to management, senior executives, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysis of complex issues, and documenting strategies, policies, briefs and other key artifacts for various stakeholder audiences.
  • Understanding of Commonwealth Government property and procurement legislation and other relevant legislation, policies and guidelines.
  • Develop and actively manage key internal and external relationships, including collaborating with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation. In addition to representing and explaining agency views in various forums.
  • Knowledge and experience in successfully setting priorities and delivering quality results on time and on budget.
  • Confidence and ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and negotiate with team members, business areas and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Experience in managing teams and facilitating their career development.
