This tier 2 commercial builder is excelling in a niche project domain focused on Government and Defense construction. They are expanding their teams and are in need of a dedicated leader to join as a Commercial Manager (Finance/Savings).

As a pivotal figure in the organization, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient commercial practices within the team, monitoring compliance with contractual and financial obligations for projects exceeding $25 million AUD. This role is crucial for the business and requires a commercially astute professional with a positive and collaborative approach to team engagement.

The builder's success is attributed to their dedicated team's commitment to delivering high-quality projects. They consistently surpass client expectations, managing projects ranging from $25 million to $150 million, while thriving under tight deadlines and complex project requirements.

The Role:

With strong commercial acumen, exceptional negotiation skills, and a genuine passion for the job, you will oversee a team of CA's. Effective daily communication with directors and designated project managers is essential. Your role will involve managing the financial aspects of subcontract packages for various types of projects, with exposure to GC21 or Defense Contracts exceeding $10 million AUD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement Commercial Strategies
  • Risk Assessments / Analysis
  • Forecasting Reports
  • Bid Preparation
  • Represent and guide the business in commercial and legal affairs, collaborating with the External Legal Team when necessary
  • Ensure compliance with commercial aspects of contracts
  • Negotiate contracts with various stakeholders for favorable terms
  • Analyze tender documents and manage contract disputes
  • Develop procedures for on-site and off-site operations
  • Lead scope changes negotiation in the Head Contract
  • Mentor the commercial team in alignment with project goals
  • Oversee financial risk management and cost forecasting

To be Successful:

  • Minimum 7 years experience with reputable Australian builders on projects over $10 million
  • Experience with recognized Australian building firms
  • Degree in Law, Commerce, Accounting, Quantity Surveying, Business, or related fields
  • Postgraduate qualifications in relevant disciplines
  • Proficiency in contract documentation and negotiation
  • Commercial Acumen and attention to cost savings
  • Experience in contract claims, variations, and cost planning
  • Passionate individual driven by challenges and achievement
  • Proficient in software packages like Jobpac, Procore, or CHEOPS
