What you will be doing:

The JCPRP HC is a position within the Integrated Violence Prevention and Response Service (IVPRS).

The position has a wide scope of responsibility and requires the JCPRP HC to undertake critical work with a high level of professional knowledge and the exercise of professional judgement in a complex clinical setting.

It requires a high level of clinical skill and expertise in the field of child protection and sexual assault and requires the incumbent to have a demonstrated understanding of the various policies and legislations impacting these fields.


The position has 8 primary objectives:

  • Initiate an acute and nonacute response to children and young people who have experienced serious and criminal sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect and their nonoffending family members referred to JCPRP.
  • Provide timely case management within JCPRP as required, to assist children and young people who have experienced sexual and physical abuse and neglect and their nonoffending family members.
  • Make referrals and facilitate ongoing liaison with NSW Health services to provide medical and forensic examinations and psychosocial support, including NSW Health Sexual Assault Services, Child Protection Counselling Services, Aboriginal Family Health Services, New Street Services, Joint Referral Unit (JRU) and other services as required.
  • Collaborate, negotiate and maintain ongoing relationships with CS and NSW Police and other key stakeholders, on issues in relation to children who have experienced sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and their nonoffending family members.
  • Facilitate access to Local Health District information relating to JCPRP referrals and participate in JCPRP Local Planning and Response meetings as delegated by the JCPRP SHC.
  • Participate in Aboriginal Community Engagement activities.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate health records, including maintenance of relevant data systems.
  • Actively participate in planning, implementing and evaluating the JCPRP health response, with a focus on continuous quality improvement.

Selection Criteria to be Addressed:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work with eligibility for membership with the AASW.
  • Extensive demonstrated clinical experience in relation to child protection intervention and crisis intervention, counselling, advocacy and case management including a capacity to engage with children, young people, families and communities in cases involving a high level of risk.
  • Extensive demonstrated knowledge of health service systems and services and referral options for children and young people who have experienced criminal and serious sexual assault, physical abuse and neglect and their nonoffending family members.
  • Significant demonstrated knowledge of child protection issues, including understanding of the legislation, guidelines, government policies and legal issues surrounding sexual assault and physical abuse and neglect of children.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and maintain relationships with interagency partners and key stakeholders in relation to developing therapeutic responses.
  • Demonstrated highlevel written, computer and verbal communication skills, including an ability to write reports and problem solve and maintain a high clinical and administrative workload.
