About the position


The Risk, Audit and Insurance (RAI) team is responsible for overseeing risk management, internal audit and insurance across La Trobe University (University).


The purpose of this position is to:

  • Proactively provide professional advice on all aspects of the risk management, internal audit and insurance functions of the University.
  • Coordinate and support the operation of an effective internal audit cosourced program, aligned to the University's Internal Audit Charter as approved by the Corporate Governance, Audit and Risk Committee (CGARC).
  • Proactively work across the University to ensure recommendations from internal audits and risk assessments are implemented to support continuous improvement.
  • Progress and monitor the University's annual insurance renewal process.
  • Assist business unit leaders with the management of risk in a manner consistent with the University's Risk Management Framework supporting strategic and operational priorities across the University.

Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Law with relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
  • At least 3 years' experience in risk, audit or insurance which is relevant to the role duties outlined above.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and report writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to negotiate, motivate, influence and build relationships.
  • Demonstrated high level of selfmotivation and personal management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, that enable clear and articulate presentation of complex information in a meaningful and usable format.
  • Ability to exercise judgement, organise workload and work independently with minimum supervision whilst managing multiple projects with competing timeframes.
  • Experience in handling general insurance claims, reviewing and assessing required insurance coverage, interpreting complex policy wordings and organising insurance renewals for large organisations is highly desirable.
