About the Council

The Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council includes the Mayor and four Councillors. The Executive Management Team consists of the Chief Executive Officer and four senior managers. The Council operates with a budget of around $20 million annually and has about 70 staff members, serving a population of nearly 1000. Over the past year, the NASC team has demonstrated exceptional performance in strategic, operational, and financial areas.

Napranum has evolved into a thriving community with modern amenities like the Mary Ann Coconut library, the Indigenous Knowledge Centre, Council offices, healthcare services, Aged and Disability Services, supermarket, a war memorial, Water Park, waterfront development, workshops, and numerous new residences built in the last decade.

The Role

As a key member of the Executive team reporting to the CEO, you will oversee the Directorate to realize the Council's strategic vision and ensure timely completion of building and infrastructure projects. Your focus on empowering individuals by providing trade opportunities will enhance staff capabilities and customer service to meet community needs.

Your key responsibilities will involve:

  • Housing (New constructions, Repairs & Maintenance, Upgrades)
  • Planning and Permitting
  • Licenses and Permissions
  • Roads and Drainage Systems
  • Major Infrastructure Projects
  • Asset Management
  • Contractor Oversight

Desired Skills and Experience

With a background in building services and experience in project management, team leadership, and construction, you are recognized for your proficiency in financial management, cost estimation, and procurement. Your capability to meet project timelines, deliver quality results, and engage hands-on will be crucial.

Hold a Cert IV in Building, Civil Construction, or Frontline Management and ideally have experience working with Qbuild (within Indigenous communities). Your aim should be to integrate into the environment and elevate staff motivation and expertise in building services and infrastructure.
