Government - State (Government & Defence)
Full time
This vacancy is for Fixed Term appointments for up to 5 years with the possibility of extension(s).

Successful applicants to the Medical Co-Director (State Forensics) position can also be appointed to a clinical Fixed Term Consultant Psychiatrist role within State Forensics of up to 0.5 FTE.

To be appointed to both the Medical Co-Director and Consultant Psychiatrist positions, applicants will need to meet the requirements of both roles.

About this role

The State Forensic Mental Health Services (SFMHS)provides mental health services for individuals with mental illness associated with high-risk behaviours and who are typically in the criminal justice system.

Our services are delivered across a variety of settings including 45 inpatient beds, community, prisons, and courts.

There has been substantial recent State Government investment in forensic mental health services, including the establishment of two new Child and Adolescent teams (one community based and one in Youth Detention).

Funding has been announced for 48 adult and 5 child and adolescent forensic mental health beds, with further announcements expected.

Additional services are also planned in relation to the Criminal Law Mental Impairment (CLMI) reform.

As a member of the Mental Health, Public Health, Dental Services (MHPHDS) Executive team, the Medical Co-Director (State Forensics)works collectively to achieve patient, community, and population outcomes.

The Co-Directors work in partnership to provide effective leadership, governance, strategic planning, and operational management of the clinical stream.

In this role, you will ensure the provision of safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care consistent with North Metropolitan Health Service's (NMHS) safety, quality, and performance frameworks.

The Consultant Psychiatristpositions within the State Forensic Mental Health Service are responsible for the psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment of consumers under their direct care.

In this role, you will provide clinical leadership, coordination and direction to a multi-disciplinary team responsible for delivering evidence based best practice treatment and evaluates the provision of patient centred-care coordination, within recovery orientated model.

What we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Psychiatrist to join our outstanding SFMHS team and shape the future of forensic mental health services in Western Australia.

You will be driven and innovative individual whose actions, interactions and partnerships achieve high quality patient care.

You will have the opportunity to embody the NMHS Values and make a real difference by providing safe quality care through expertise and teamwork.

While your qualifications and experience tell us part of your story, your values and attitude speak louder still.
At NMHS, we aim to ensure our behaviours reflect our core values: Care, Respect, Innovation, Teamwork & Integrity.

During the selection process you will be assessed on your ability to fulfil the responsibilities of this position while upholding our values.
