Tweed Mental Health Services is seeking an Aboriginal Health Worker to provide individual and group support to consumers and carers by working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient centred recovery.

Developing supportive empathetic relationships with consumers based on Lived Experience of Mental Health Issues by empowering consumers with skills and strategies to aid their personal recovery.

  • Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14(d) of the Antidiscrimination Act 1977 (NSW). NON GRADUATE
  • Qualifications in mental health, community services or peer work (or a willingness to complete same within 18 months of commencing the position) OR substantial experience in a mental health peer worker role within public mental health or alcohol and other drug service or the non government sector. GRADUATE
  • Qualifications in mental health, community services or peer work and substantial experience in a mental health peer worker role within public mental health or alcohol and other drug service or the non government sector
  • Personal experience of mental health issues and recovery, understanding issues faced by people with mental health issues and using recovery principles. Ability and willingness to share personal lived experience of mental health issues and recovery in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of, and ability to plan, implement and evaluate group and individual peer led interventions or consultations
  • Knowledge and understanding of consumer participation and partnership, Person Centred Care, Trauma Informed Care, Consumer led Recovery, rights and responsibilities for consumers, NSW Mental Health Act 2007 and Amendments, National Mental Health Standards (2010)
