The role

Saab's Civil business is a diverse, fast paced and dynamic business, with a focus on delivering commercial projects across areas such as:

  • Integrated, turnkey electronic security system solutions
  • Air traffic management solutions
  • Computer aided dispatch solutions
  • Mixed reality solutions using Microsoft HoloLens


The Head of Product Management is a strategic leadership position responsible for the identification, development and support of products that support and drive the Civil business plan.

The role encompasses having an understanding of the potential customer market and requirements, future technology trends, as well as competitor products and services and the ability to develop business cases for product investment to meet business needs.


  • Set the standard for your team by providing superior leadership to your direct reports including goal setting, engagement, performance management, coaching and mentoring, training and career development that influences a high performing team.
  • Collaborate and influence peers to develop and implement the Civil group strategy and associated operational management plans Report on product status, identify risks and opportunities to the group and provide advice to the other Management Team members on the escalation and resolution of product development, deployment and support issues
  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps based on Civil business strategy, market demands and understanding of competitor products
  • Develop and champion business cases for investment needed to meet the product roadmap
  • Plan and coordinate all product development activities taking into account the planned roadmap, any project specific development needs and other business imperatives such as support for win business activities, multiple concurrent project execution, business and company level improvement activities
  • Participate in tender preparation, providing product compliance statements and cost and schedule estimates for any project specific product development work required
  • Develop process and procedures and resource plans to provide product support to internal and external stakeholders. This may include help desk support, callouts to customer premises and/or back office third level support
About you

  • Your skills and experience will include:_
  • Current appreciation of related technologies applicable Saab Australia's business activities in Civil Solutions.
  • Demonstrated competence in engineering leadership with recognized broadbased product management experience.
  • Strong business acumen developed within a complex engineering operating environment.
  • Sufficiently skilled to meet the skill and competence requirements of the relevant Australian professional certification body.
  • An understanding of the full product development lifecycle and common guiding standards.
  • Significant supervisory experience including the conduct of performance reviews and mentoring.
  • Domain experience in security systems or a related systems integration industry (desirable)


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
