Position Information:

Wilkins Public School is a large primary school in the Inner West of Sydney.

Enrolments are currently at 516 with 43% of students having a Language Background other than English and the school has a FOEI of 23.

There are deep connections with the local community, in particular parent and carer involvement with school function, noted by the five P&C sub-committees.

The grounds are large and leafy and there is a well-established community garden where lessons on bush care and gardening are undertaken.

We have over 50 community users who share our facilities and provide diverse extracurricular activities for all age groups, including an onsite leased preschool and an out of school hours care provider.

We have an experienced teaching staff with approximately a third of teaching staff with more than 20 years teaching service, a third between ten to twenty years, and a third with less than 10 years service.

The school is recognised as highly inclusive, and individual student experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities are recognised, valued and celebrated.

The school provides extensive additional supports for students with additional social, emotional, well-being and academic needs, and a wide range of accommodations at varying levels are routinely incorporated to support student engagement.


Selection Criteria:

  • Approval to teach students with learning and support needs (primary) and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs (primary) in regular classes. Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needs and their teachers.
  • Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and communication skills to partner sensitively, collaboratively and effectively with parents, carers, teachers and students to support the meaningful inclusion of all students which results in achievement of identified outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build the capacity of the teaching and nonteaching teams and to liaise with the Learning and Support Team, school counsellors, teachers, SLSOs, external agencies and Department of Education to effectively plan, monitor and evaluate a range of supports for students.
  • Demonstrated exceptional time management and organisational skills to set and achieve identified outcomes for the Learning Support Team and its dependents, and develop and refine whole school processes to ensure legal and policy requirements are met.
