Social Work Department
Social Work at the Women's aims to improve the health and well-being of women and babies attending the Women's.

Social Work embraces a view of women's health that is holistic and considers women's social, physical, emotional and cultural well-being.

Our social workers offer support to women through their maternity, neonatal, gynaecological and oncology experiences and provide advocacy, counselling, support and information for women in response to health and social needs.


About the role


This position provides an experienced Grade 2 Social Worker with unique opportunities to further develop their skills in women's health with a specific focus on supporting maternity patients.

The position is 38 hours per week fixed term full time. This role will support staff leave and manage caseloads while staff are on leave. This role requires you to be flexible and work across all clinic areas of the hospital.

With excellent supervision and support, the successful applicant will provide holistic care to patients, including developing case plans, supporting adjustment to new diagnoses, undertaking risk assessments for vulnerable patients, discharge planning, liaising with other healthcare providers and managing a caseload.


  • The key responsibilities for this position are:_
- _ Provide a high quality evidence-based social work service to the patients of the Women's, including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, short-term counselling, bereavement care, advocacy, community liaison and referral, case management and discharge planning._
- _ Ensure prompt assessment of newly referred patients_
- _ Provide coverage for planned leave and unplanned leave within the department_
- _ Support Active response referrals when required_
- _ Participate in handover of patient cases as they relate to each clinic and practice area_

About you
To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work as well as meeting eligibility requirements
for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

  • Demonstrate a theoretical understanding and an intersectional approach to your clinical practice in relation to working with victim/survivors of family violence and sexual assault and knowledge of working with complex trauma and the child protection system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, shortterm counselling, bereavement care, advocacy, community liaison and referral, case management and discharge planning
