The Community Support and Inclusion (CSI) team is seeking three Support Workers for a young autistic adult with intellectual and physical disabilities. The charming young man lives in a modern house and has access 24x7 support with Autism SA.

The role is mainly based primarily in Andrews Farm area.
As a Support Worker for this program, you will report to the House Leader & Service Manager. You will be liaising with the families and other services involved in the support of the young man.

You would be responsible and accountable for

  • Providing direct support to clients of Autism SA
  • Planning and executing meaningful experiences for the clients and attending and supporting them at appointments.
  • Implementing therapy programs and following support plans including meal plans, positive behaviour support plans, and other allied health plans
  • Shopping, cooking, personal care, recording routine charts, and documentation.
  • Communicating with other service providers including Occupational & Speech Therapists and Community Participation providers as needed regarding the daytoday support needs of the young men.

What you need to succeed:

  • Be a passionate, reliable, and dedicated Support Worker who is looking to grow and further develop your skills.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with others to ensure a consistent approach to enable clients to reach their goals.
  • Experience in supporting individuals requiring personal care, manual handling, and medication administration via gastrostomy (training will be provided)
  • Experience in or willingness to learn alternative communication methods
  • Effective communication skills including report writing and verbal
  • Ability to use initiative to develop solutions to daytoday challenges
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Safe environments for children and young people (Through Their Eyes) training

Essential Requirement:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Individual Support or Disability or similar equivalent qualification
  • Assist with Medication training
  • Full Australian Drivers Licence
  • Must be able and available to work across the roster including passive sleepovers
  • National Police Clearance within the last 3 months (or willing to obtain one)
  • NDIS Workers Check and DHS Working with Children Check
  • Current First Aid & CPR certificate

Desirable:

  • Undergraduate study in an allied health degree such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Developmental Education, Speech Pathology, Special Education, or Social Work (desirable). Similar qualifications or/and relevant industry experience will also be considered
  • Knowledge of the autism spectrum and effective strategies for support
  • Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support strategies and plans
