Mission Data Division (MD) within the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), will deliver cutting edge capabilities to Defence through a variety of different programmes and projects.

To facilitate this ASD has a requirement for a Database Administrator.

The Database Administrator will be accountable for the administration of a range of databases of varying technologies.

The Database Administrator will plan, organise, integrate, deliver and sustain complex databases under broad direction and will maintain productive working relationships.

The Specified Person will be expected to demonstrate attributes of SFIA Level of Responsibility 5.

ABOUT THE COMPANY
Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is the federal agency responsible for foreign signals intelligence, cyber warfare and information security. ASD's purpose is to defend Australia from global threats and help advance our national interests.

Situated in Canberra, ASD employs over 2000 TSPV cleared workers. ASD's workforce is growing rapidly. Areas of growth include PMO, cyber security, systems administration and engineering, software development and network engineering.

A top-security, complex and highly technical environment, ASD plays a vital role in the defence of Australia. Long contracts (12 months+) available.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under direction sustain capabilities that predominantly use:
  • Oracle technologies; and/or
  • Sybase technologies. Contribute to the evaluation and testing of new system releases (including patches). Plan and coordinate the installation of new versions of system software.
  • Investigate, coordinate and resolve potential and actual service problems.
  • Contribute to the management of system and database configurations across numerous environments (e.g. production, QA, development, training, test, and exercise). Monitor database activity and resource usage. Optimise database performance and plan for forecast resource needs.
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of relational databases and replication technologies:
  • Oracle Database; and/or
  • Sybase ASE / Sybase Replication Server
  • Develop simple programs, or scripts to assist in the implementation, integration and maintenance of the system software.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Experience with either:
  • Oracle products including Oracle database and Oracle APEX; and/or
  • Sybase products including ASE and Replication Server
  • Australian Citizenship and a TSPV security clearance is essential.
