The Franchise Council of Australia is the peak body for the $172billion franchise business segment, which includes over 1,300 networks, with 94,000+ individual franchised outlets, employing more than 565,251 people.

The FCA provides a platform for franchisors, franchisees, business advisors and small to medium businesses to influence government policy, communicate with political leaders and key decision makers, network with peers and engage in policy debates.


What is the opportunity?


This is an opportunity for a traditional CEO with franchise experience to be the public face of the franchise sector in Australia.

With a key focus on retention and growth of the membership base and enhancing the experience and value for their members.


The FCA require someone who is curious, has the ability to articulate themselves clearly & professionally with credibility in the franchise industry.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively and positively promoting the Franchise Council of Australia and the franchising business model with Federal and State politicians, regulators, the media and the business community.
  • Lead the Board in determining and implementing the FCA's strategic vision to ensure that it remains vital, relevant and financially strong for its members
  • Develop and implement strategies to foster a political and economic climate that is favourable to the continued growth and success of the franchise sector
  • Educating and informing key stakeholders on the economic contribution and importance of the sector, and the features of franchising that provide competitive advantage to franchisors and franchisees
  • From time to time, proactively address poorly informed or negative perceptions of franchising through wellreasoned arguments, industry submissions and media communications
  • Regularly engage with governments at all levels on issues relevant to the sector including
  • Advancing the interests of members through the media and public relations activities; being actively involved in franchising forums
  • Representing the FCA to the public and the broader business community and liaising with the Chief Operating Officer to ensure the efficient operation of the national office.

The 'Ideal' person will have:

  • Traditional experience as a CEO with strong commercial acumen
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate, influence and support internal and external stakeholders
  • Ideally previous experience working with a major franchise and /or a solid understanding of the franchising process
  • Previous exposure to the political sphere across a number of industry sectors is preferred,
  • Proven ability to make a difference and to inspire and lead from the front
  • Outstanding communication skills and be passionate about delivering outstanding service and results to stakeholders
  • Established, networks and relationships within key government, political, media and business circles.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance, strategic planning capability and strong financial skills
  • The capability to tap into the collective intellect and experience of FCA members in a manner which fosters member engagement
