About the role

We are seeking a values-driven Lived Experience Peer Worker who will work within The Salvation Army Alcohol and Drug program team to provide appropriate and effective support to program participants.

Workers will be required to co-facilitate groups, provide direction and support to clients from a lived/living experience perspective.
You will successfully

  • Provide a lived/living experience perspective when cofacilitating groups and client activities
  • Provide support to clients through the induction process and welcome new clients into the programs
  • Identify referral opportunities and assist clients in accessing appropriate support
  • Transport and support clients to engage in community and recoverybased activities
  • Demonstrate and uphold appropriate boundaries with clients and staff
  • Use lived/living experience to help clients with relapse prevention, goal setting and provide hope for recovery
  • Show sensitivity and respect to all participants and staff including those of diverse faiths, cultures, beliefs, sexual orientations and genders
  • Use lived/living experience to help guide program development
  • Assist in developing and facilitating experiences for clients to engage in selfcare, personal development and community engagement as part of a holistic recovery
  • Model engagement in treatment and encourage clients to engage in treatment
  • Engage in regular supervision with a trained supervisor to develop practice and discuss any challenges or concerns
  • Document all data, client interactions and information according to policy and procedures
You will have

  • Lived experience of addiction and recovery
  • A clear understanding of the peer role and the differences between the work of clinicians and peers
  • Knowledge of the alcohol and other drug sector in Tasmania. Knowledge of the issues and challenges clients experience and clear understanding of harm minimisation approaches
  • Understand and ability to demonstrate trauma informed practice
