Senior Drainage & SUDS Engineer - Birmingham


My client is a key player in Surface Water Management (SWM) and is leading the conversation in the UK and internationally on the integration of drainage into green blue infrastructure and masterplanning. Joining their national drainage team means being part of a diverse group of experts working with clients like water companies, local authorities, highways and rail authorities, and developers on major projects. You'll also contribute to the development of cutting-edge digital services for clients. This is a dynamic time to join the company as we blend traditional engineering skills with innovative digital approaches.


You'll have the chance to shape digital processes that enhance engineering design, collaborating closely with technical experts in the field. There's potential for you to become the go-to person for Surface Water Management and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) in the region, offering expertise, mentoring young engineers, and engaging with key clients.


They are seeking an engineer with experience in drainage and SUDS, along with an interest in planning, ecology, landscape architecture, environmental economics, digital tools, and sustainability. While expertise in all areas isn't required, a passion for some or all is essential.   • Essential Criteria:
  • Chartered status (ICE or CIWEM).
  • Experience in drainage design, including SUDS.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Hydraulic modeling (preferably Microdrainage and/or Civils 3D).
  • Familiarity with CDM Regulations.
  • Track record of delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for developing sustainable and cost-effective solutions.

  • Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience in Design & Build projects.
  • Teamwork experience in multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Commercial acumen.
  • Ability to motivate and develop others.
  • Proven track record in client relationship building.
  • Awareness of BIM and digital design processes.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Developing infrastructure design packages for drainage.
  • Collaborating on drainage design solutions for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and safety/environmental standards.
  • Managing project designs and schemes efficiently.
  • Preparing technical and financial proposals.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior team members.
  • Coordinating with other project disciplines and site teams.
