Our role is to support the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) to meet the Nation's commitment to care for our veteran and defence service community - the men and women who have served Australia in times of war and conflict as well as peacetime.

About the role

Permanent Part Time Role 4.5 days a week - based in Brisbane or Melbourne CBD DVA office

The Physiotherapy adviser plays a critical role in ensuring the appropriate use of clinical evidence to support veterans' access physiotherapy healthcare services and products within their entitlements.

In this unique new role, you will assist DVA across a range of functions, as required;

  • Provide clinical health advice and education in relation to:
  • Medical expenses previously incurred- requests from veterans and DVA clients for health treatment already received.
  • Prior financial approval requests- requests from veterans and DVA clients prior to health treatment being received.
  • Rehabilitation appliance programs.
  • Advise on appropriate clinical treatment, including the provision of aids and appliances within the DVA health entitlements regime, as required.
  • Provide specialised clinical, business and policy advice.
  • Provide advice to support program and provider audit/reviews under an agreed assurance procedural framework.
  • Respond to health evidence queries from business areas within DVA.
  • Liaise with external providers in relation to requests for services under an agreed procedural framework.
  • Participate in ongoing education and quality improvement activities, as required.
  • Undertake other clinical advice and quality assurance activities, as required.

About you

Ideally, you're a physiotherapist who has experience within Defence or DVA, with specialisation or significant experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy & based either in Brisbane or Melbourne

Please note: You must be an Australian citizen

We're looking for a Physiotherapist with the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Physiotherapy
  • Unrestricted registration as a health practitioner with Ahpra.
  • At least 5 years current clinical experience.
  • Strong critical analysis skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both clinical and non-clinical professionals.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and judgement in dealing with client related issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member.
  • An understanding of DVA processes and the services available to veterans and their families.
  • A specific interest in clinical areas most relevant to DVA (e.g. primary health care, musculoskeletal medicine, mental health, geriatrics, rehabilitation).
