Purpose of Role:

The HPGR Technician is responsible to carry out repairs and maintenance on Weir HPGR equipment on customer sites and the workshop as both a fitter and a hands-on site service technician.

The HPGR Technician/Fitter is responsible for quality, lean, administration and achieving production levels to support product sales within cost and efficiency KPI's, with regards to the work performed.


This position will be working with the Senior HPGR supervisor and HPGR service management on various business objectives including but not limited to onsite safety, onsite maintenance, process improvement, lean principles and special projects.


The HPGR technician is responsible to ensure safety and quality standards are met, provide technical guidance and ensure that administrative activities are completed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide service and customer support during site visits
  • Manage all on site installation, repair maintenance and test tasks as per scopes of work provided
  • Recommend improvements to the HPGR Service Manager for the Customer's equipment that will reduce their TOC
  • Develop strong relationships with key customers to ensure expectations are being met and remedial action taken to address issues.
  • Exhibit a collaborative approach to ensure that customer needs are prioritised and satisfied to meet set service levels.
  • Contribute to strategic planning of site service and installations.
  • Provide technical advice to the Site Service Supervisor for service and components for contracts.
  • Attend training and to develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance is conducted to eliminate or reduce plant downtime.
  • Show flexibility under urgent or breakdown conditions in order to service customer requirements

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of eight to ten 4 years relevant technical/trade experience (Minimum Cert III in Mechanical Engineering)
  • Experience working on heavy specialised equipment such as highpressure grinding rolls, hydraulic and rotating equipment, highly preferred.
  • Hydraulic knowledge is desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Be available for a combination of workshop and field work
