The Organisation
The Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) is the largest organization of its kind in Australia. VACCA is an Aboriginal community-controlled organization that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal community.

About the role


The Redress and Legal Admin Support will support the coordination of VACCA's response to and engagement with former clients who were abused while in VACCA's care who are seeking redress; this may be through the National Redress Scheme or civil litigation.

This newly created position will be a challenging and rewarding role operating in a dynamic organisation. The role will involve secretarial tasks associated with file management and document control, and managing VACCA's redress database.

The role aligns with VACCA's strategic priorities of respect, self-determination, healing and empowerment and excellence.

This role will be instrumental in ensuring services are underpinned by the lens of culture, the best interest of Aboriginal children, young people and families, and the aspirations of the Aboriginal Community.


About You

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA' vision and purpose and the capacity to take a leadership role in championing these internally and externally
  • An ability to empathise with people's experiences of sexual abuse and an understanding of complex trauma, intergenerational trauma and community trauma grief and loss.
  • Awareness and understanding of the National Redress Scheme which was established by the Australian Government in response to one of the key recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
  • Highly developed organizational and administrative skills with demonstrated capacity to research and prepare diverse forms of documentation, and analysis.
  • High level of attention to detail, ability to read and analyse case files, provide briefs and follow policy guidelines.
  • High level professional, interpersonal and communication skills, to engage with a variety of stakeholders
  • A demonstrated commitment to establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with families, colleagues, government departments, sector partners and the Aboriginal Community.
