ABOUT THE AGENCYThe Daydawn Advocacy Centre is an outreach agency of The Catholic Archdiocese of Perth.


They provide legal guidance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are at risk of eviction from public or private housing or are experiencing homelessness.


Beyond secure housing, they offer referrals and guidance on government policies and connect clients with essential services like healthcare and mental health support.


Their office is located at Unit 13, Number 5 Aberdeen Street, Piccadilly Square, Central Perth, Western ABOUT THE ROLEDaydawn is actively looking for a Tenancy Lawyer who can provide legal support and guidance on all tenancy matters, as well as represent clients in court.

In this role, you will oversee the Tenancy Advocate Assistants and volunteers, ensuring that legal services are provided efficiently.

This role will report to Mark Reidy, the Director of Daydawn.

This role is available on a permanent basis and can be either full-time or part-time.

The key responsibilities are:
Legal Advice and Guidance: Explain the tenancy agreement's potential outcomes and rights or obligations to clients.

Court Representation:
Representing clients in tenancy tribunals or eviction hearings, lease termination disputes, etc.

Case Assessment and Intake:
Assess the client's initial situation and maintain records in the database.

Preparing Legal Documents:
Any reports (internal or external) and other documents such as letters to landlords or applications to tribunals.

Administration Duties:
Manage office upkeep, handle incoming calls, and greet clients.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties.

You will be expected to perform different tasks as required to meet the organisation's overall objectives.

ABOUT YOU:

Ideal Skills Have:

Tertiary qualification in Law (LLB) or similar Practising certificate from LPBWA (Unrestricted Practise)Deep understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act years of experience working in a Catholic organisation or with Australia's First Nations Peoples.

A working knowledge of the policies and procedures used by the Department of Communities, Housing and Child Protection.

Participated in civil magistrate's court trials (Chief and Cross-examination).

Ability to:
Support Daydawn's Catholic ethos.

Use Microsoft Office Suite (word and outlook).

Work both autonomously and in a team environment.

Be empathetic to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people's values within a spiritual context.

The successful applicant will be subjectto Federal Police Clearance & pre-employment medical check.
