A Day in the Life of a Communications Manager
The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that drive improved operational performance, improve employee engagement, and maximise our people's adoption of change.
This new role will have a particular focus on Monash Health's current and future capital infrastructure projects, delivering communications activities and support to ensure internal operational readiness and stakeholder/community support.
Working collaboratively across the organisation and our partners, the Communications Manager provides communication support to Monash Health's Senior Executive and other clinical/administrative functions.
As part of an integrated communications unit, this role also provides leadership and support across a broad range of areas, including web, digital/multimedia, brand management and external communications, setting strategy, and providing leadership, advice and support to team members.
Key result areas:
- Coordinate work and provide leadership, advice, and support to team members working on Capital Project communication activity.
- Provide expert communications advice and support to senior leaders and colleagues
- Develop and implement effective communications strategies to support Monash Health's Strategic Plan and arising operational needs.
- Protect the reputation of Monash Health through risk management and crisis communications when required.
- Provide feedback and support to stakeholders around the identification and management of key risks and issues associated with any change, providing advice and solutions around issues should they arise.
About You
Qualifications/registrations/ licenses:
- A degree in Communications, Public Relations or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
- Extensive experience in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence
- Working with Children Check
Technical skills/knowledge/ experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of communications and engagement within large, complex organisations.
- Relevant experience in a communications role predominantly focused on major change (such as infrastructure or construction projects) and the impact on highlyengaged internal audiences.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write and edit for a variety of mediums, with excellent attention to detail.
- Proven ability to execute complex tasks to completion within tight time frames.
- Highlevel interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively influence and build sustainable and successful relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to absorb complex information and represent it simply.
- Demonstrated ability to identify key points appropriate for different audiences and emphasise those effectively.
- Proven experience in supporting and coaching management; demonstrated ability to interact with, counsel and influence management effectively.
- Proven ability to develop and execute creative, resultsdriven communications strategies which are aligned with tangible business goals and objectives.
- Ability to acquire a strong understanding of the issues in public health.
- High level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in a health services is not essential.
