The position of Metal Fabricator is accountable to the Foreman for the accurate manufacturing of custom metal fixtures and components by transforming raw metal materials into finished products using various techniques such as cutting, welding, bending, and assembling.

A large proportion of our work involves shopfitting fixtures and components prominently displayed in retail and hospitality settings.

As a result, this role demands precision, technical expertise, craftsmanship, and attention to detail to produce premium metal products in accordance with issued production orders, construction documentation, allocated time frames, programme, schedule and specific requirements for quality.


Responsibilities:

  • Review project plans, production orders, shop drawings, and specifications to understand the requirements.
  • Prepare metal materials, including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and brass.
  • Operate metal fabrication equipment including guillotine cutter, brake press, drill press, lathe and roller to cut, fold and shape metal components.
  • Utilize various welding techniques including MIG and TIG to weld metal materials including mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
  • Monitor the accuracy of angles, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Assemble metal parts, components, and structures, following assembly instructions and drawings.
  • Grind, sand, and polish metal surfaces to achieve a smooth finish as required for powdercoating or other finishing processes.
  • Inspect welded joints for quality and structural integrity, making necessary adjustments.
  • Identify and rectify defects or deviations from specifications.
  • Ensure precise measurements and maintain highquality standards.
  • Ensure that assembled products meet quality standards and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of fabricated components.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of materials and tools.
  • Coordinate with team members and supervisors to meet project deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Communicate effectively to resolve issues and provide progress updates.
  • Be reliable and punctual in attendance.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant vocational or technical training in metal fabrication.
  • Proven experience as a metal fabricator, with expertise in welding and metalworking techniques with the following materials:
  • Aluminium
  • Stainless steel
  • Mild steel
  • Brass
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of various metals, their properties, and appropriate fabrication methods.
  • Familiarity with fabrication tools and machinery.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in work.
  • Excellent problemsolving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Creativity and craftsmanship to bring designs to life and address design challenges.
  • Commitment to safety and knowledge of safety protocols in a workshop environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality in the role and workplace.
