About the Position:
We are looking for a dedicated individual to secure all necessary environmental approvals (State and Commonwealth) for a major iron ore project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. In addition, you will set up an effective environmental compliance system for the construction phase.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in obtaining approvals and permits (State and Commonwealth), creating environmental management plans, navigating complex approval processes, devising approval strategies, and managing relationships with various stakeholders. You should excel in custom engagement strategies, environmental planning, impact assessments, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify all State and Commonwealth statutory approvals per the project approval strategy
- Prepare and lead the development of application documents for State and Commonwealth approvals.
- Supervise a small team to ensure timely delivery of approvals for construction and operation.
- Assist in compiling environmental review documents and responding to public feedback.
- Create specialized scopes of work for consultants and oversee their work to meet quality and schedule standards.
- Lead the implementation of environmental compliance systems to support project delivery.
- Manage internal and external communications, resolve conflicts, and ensure project resources align with delivery timelines.
Requirements:
- At least 15 years of experience in Environment and Heritage within mining or major projects.
- 15 years of engagement with government agencies on policy, regulatory, and legislative matters.
- Minimum of 10 years in a managerial role.
- Experience working with traditional owners and community groups.
- In-depth knowledge of legislative and regulatory systems related to major project approvals.
- Strong written communication skills for technical reports, studies, and plans.
- Proven ability in issue management, stakeholder engagement, and project management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
