Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Children's Cancer Institute Full time

Location:

Randwick - Sydney, Australia

Employment Type:
Full-Time Fixed Term

Department:
Genomic Childhood Cancer Risk (GCCR)

Closing Date:
11/01/2023

At Children's Cancer Institute we believe that a life should be long. That every child should have the chance to grow up, grow old and plan exciting futures.

However, cancer cuts life short for hundreds of children every year, before they've even had a chance to make their mark.

You have the opportunity to change that.

Through our world-class medical research, we aim to develop safer and more effective treatments for children with cancer so that they have the opportunity to live out their dreams and fulfil their potential.

You'll join a team that will nurture your talent, grow your career and allow you to thrive so that you too can make a powerful contribution to this important vision.

Together we can and we will cure all children of cancer. It's not if, it's when.

As our Bioinformatics Research Assistant for the Genomic Childhood Cancer Group you will contribute by performing the processing and analysis of germline sequencing data.

The key responsibilities of this role are to coordinate with sequencing facilities to receive genomic data, process and quality assess the genomic data using standardised pipelines and deposit the processed outputs on curation platforms for subsequent reporting.

This role will also involve occasional maintenance of the pipelines, and potentially prototyping of new processing stages, as required.

For the right person this role is an entry point to the fast moving field of human genomics, in Australia's largest cancer genomics project.

To succeed you will have:

  • Competency and demonstrated experience writing software or performing data analysis in at least one programming language (preferably Bash or Python)
  • Familiarity with cleaning, processing, and combining data from multiple sources

Why Children's Cancer Institute is the place to nurture and grow your career:

Our 'FlexBEST' program offers hybrid working - a mixture of home and office, flexible start/finish times, school-friendly hours and 9-day fortnight opportunities.
