Position Description:

The Senior Network Security Technician will be required to perform and/or have responsibility for duties including, but not limited to:

  • Facilitate the design, build, development and transition of Cyber solutions
  • aligned with best practice and relevant governance and security principlesand frameworks.
  • Lead design and build activities associated with firewalls, including their
  • automation, and integration with established network designs using BGP and
  • OSPF
  • Lead design and build activities associated with Network Access Control(NAC)
  • Integrate firewall and network security tools with monitoring toolsetsincluding the SIEM
  • Proactively maintain and upgrade Cyber tools
  • Facilitate the design, build, development and transition of cyber toolsetsaligned with best practice and relevant governance and security principlesand frameworks.
  • Provide operational support to the project team for respective technologies.
  • Author, review, maintain and contribute to Solution Designs, StandardOperating Procedures, As-Built-As-Configured and other requireddocumentation artefacts.
  • Collaborate with vendor/supplier specialists to provide solutions and optimisedesigns to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Support Validation and Verification (V&V) activities.
  • Identify and assess technical risks, and collaborate with project stakeholdersto inform and provide mitigation options and caveats.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working in Defence as a Senior Network Security Technician
  • • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in applying cyber-security controls and practices aligned to zero-trust architecture principles.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Security products in the following
  • Demonstrated experience working with Security products in the followingCyber areas:

o Network Security including Firewalls and NAC

o Security monitoringo Network automationo Logging and Auditing

  • Demonstrated experience developing, building and operating technicalsolutions using Fortinet, Ansible and Cisco products.
  • Strong knowledge of Nutanix, VMWare and hypervisor.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team, good communication,organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Powershell.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Powershell.
  • Experience with Australian Defence Force deployed environments/platformsand the unique networking, support and security constraints.
  • Knowledge of the following frameworks and standards:

o Australian Information Security Manual (ISM)

o US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)


• Knowledge and experience of the SEA2273 Minerva systems.
