Senior Mechanical Design/ Project Engineer

We are seeking a senior mechanical design/project engineer to join our busy team.

This hands-on role will require the ability to provide expertise in design of manufactured components (SolidWorks) and a clear understanding of manufacturing processes, and end to end "design to delivery" project management skills.

Required Skills and Experience - Technical:

  • Engineering and manufacturing project management including:
  • customer liaison (managing customer expectations) and
  • co-ordination and supervision of manufacturing processes.

Project scheduling and planning

  • Creation of BOM's and Work Breakdown Structures for logical project manufacturing execution
  • Provision of guidance to workshop/manufacturing employees achieve successful delivery of project manufacturing.
  • Effectively communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders

Design including 3D Modelling (SolidWorks)

  • Production of practical, detailed, accurate and practical manufacturing and maintenance drawings and specifications.
  • Reverse engineering
  • Design variation and modernisation.
  • Material selection and Optimisa tion
  • material specification selection including metals, structural sections, fasteners, bearings, Hydraulic, Pneumatic and drive mechanisms.
  • Selection of fits, surface finishes, geometric and dimensional tolerances for various manufacturing processes

Quality and Safety Systems Management

  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering related Quality and OHS policies, procedures, and associated documentation.
  • Quality management and reporting in line with customer requirements and quality management system.
  • Safety planning, hazard management and reporting in line business requirements and customer expectations.

Required Skills and Experience - Personal

  • Ability to multitask, manage deadlines and delegate appropriately.
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements, gather necessary information to generate a clear scope of work and detailed designs and specifications.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Verifiable and appropriate Australian tertiary qualification (i.e. trade certification, associate diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Mechanical design,
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with SolidWorks
  • Workingexperience in a manufacturing workshop environment
  • Strong computer and Microsoft office skills
