Please note:

Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PPA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Transport and Planning.

Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.

The Policy Officer will work as part of a high performing team to support a number of complex projects to improve the operation and regulation of the building system.

One of the key workstreams include understanding contributors and mitigations to insolvency of firms in the sector, particularly in the context of payments to subcontractors through the Security of Payment Framework (Act and Regulations).

This work includes researching and developing policy options in a collaborative culture, preparing advice on required operational and legislative changes, preparing briefings and correspondence for Ministers and executives.

This work also includes supporting the team to influence and negotiate across a wide range of government and industry stakeholders to achieve effective building policy and regulatory outcomes.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
Desirable

  • A tertiary qualification in law, public policy, or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Experience in the research and development of policy initiatives and projects in a State or Commonwealth public service setting is highly desirable.
This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2024. The work location for this position is 150 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.
